Environment
In today’s world, having a healthy environment is crucial for a good quality of life. Environmental issues have been increasing over the years. While there have been significant efforts to address the protection of the environment, there are still major risks threatening the environment. Iran is among the countries where environmental concerns are not given high priority. However, it’s important to acknowledge the shortcomings of both individuals and institutions in addressing these issues within the country.
Of all the different types of environmental advocacy groups, charities play an important role in protecting the environment; they are important organizations that, through donations and sponsorships, undertake effective actions to support environmental causes.
NIKAN’S CHARITABLE ACTIONS TO PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT
Everyone has a responsibility towards the environment, as it is a significant part of our social duty. Nikan Mammut Charity Foundation believes that respecting the environment is akin to respecting ourselves.
Here are the environmental activities the organization currently engages in:
COLLECTING BOTTLE CAPS TO ACQUIRE WHEELCHAIRS
Nikan Charity collects various plastic lids, such as those from water bottles, milk jugs, and soft drink bottles. Once a sufficient amount of lids is collected, they are sold to private recycling centers. The proceeds from the sale are then used by Nikan Charity to purchase and provide wheelchairs for individuals in need.
REDUCING PAPER USAGE THROUGH INTERNAL AUTOMATION
Efficient paper usage is crucial for environmental conservation and minimizing waste. Excessive paper usage leads to deforestation, soil erosion, and air pollution. It can even result in the import of paper, causing foreign currency outflow. Nikan has devised strategies to curtail excessive paper usage, thereby contributing to environmental preservation. One such solution is implementing internal automation and utilizing and embracing online communication methods.
SAVING WATER WITH TOUCHLESS FAUCETS
Nikan Charity has installed motion-activated, touchless faucets in its offices to mitigate water wastage effectively. Motion-activated faucets play a pivotal role in water conservation within buildings. These faucets utilize sensors that activate upon detecting hand movement, enabling faucets to open and close automatically. This innovative technology reduces water consumption and promotes water conservation.
RECYCLING OF USED BATTERIES FOR PURCHASING PROSTHETICS
Most batteries contain valuable compounds such as manganese, cobalt, nickel and lithium, which are important raw materials. Extracting these materials is costly, so recycling batteries and their compounds can save financial and material resources. Battery recycling is a common practice worldwide, as it prevents environmental pollution and reduces damage to the environment. Nikan Charity collects and recycles used batteries, using the proceeds to purchase prosthetics for those in need.
It’s important to note that the success of environmental initiatives by charitable institutions, like Nikan Charity, relies on public support. By contributing, individuals can help nurture and safeguard the environment, fostering a healthier and more sustainable world.
MAKING WASTE PICKUP TOOLS FOR COLLECTING GARBAGE
In addition to the above activities to protect the environment, Nikan Charity has also created special garbage collection pliers for urban cleaners and waste collectors. Garbage collectors use pickup collection pliers, a professional cleaning tool, to collect all kinds of wet and dry waste from the streets and in nature. All kinds of toxic and dangerous materials are collected using this tool, including discarded plastic products and broken appliances.
